Polished Finished Cast Brass Frog Clock with Dyed Red Penshell Inlay
- W: 6 in D: 6 in H: 5 in
Maitland-Smith has a long-standing tradition of using time-honored techniques to bring these beautiful pieces of jewelry to life. Brass details are created through a process called lost wax casting, in which every piece is first carved from wax to create an individual model. Artisans will then surround the wax model with fine concrete to create a mold. Once the mold hardens, two holes are carved into the material to facilitate casting. Finally, the concrete mold is filled with molten metal, which in turn melts the original wax model which drains through the narrow exit hole. When this cools, the mold is broken open to reveal the finely cast metal object, and finishes are hand applied.
Our brass and exotic shell inlay pieces are truly a labor of love.
